Ukraine Permanent Residence

Ukraine permanent residence permit gives a foreigner the right to live in Ukraine without time limits. Having obtained this permit, a foreigner has a list of benefits and the same rights as Ukrainian citizens have. The exceptions are the right to vote, the right to hold positions at Ukrainian state bodies and the right to carry out military service. A foreigner can apply for Ukrainian citizenship only after obtaining permanent residence permit.

Permanent residence permit Ukraine

There are some basic grounds for obtaining permanent residence permit in Ukraine stated by the Ukrainian law. There is an opinion that such permit is usually issued to those persons who continuously lived in Ukraine for five years or more. However, this opinion is erroneous. For example, a person without Ukrainian citizenship who has married a citizen of Ukraine can obtain a permanent residence permit in two years. In case of marriage with a foreigner who has permanent residence permit, the second spouse can obtain Ukraine permanent residence permit immediately. Ukrainian citizens who renounce citizenship can also immediately replace it with a permanent residence permit.

The procedure for obtaining a permanent residence permit in Ukraine

If you want to get a permanent residence permit Ukraine and have appropriate reasons for this, you will need to go through several legal procedures. The first step is to collect all necessary documents. So, you will need the following list of documents:

  • Passport or other proof of identity and its copy;
  • A copy of the decision to grant you an immigration permit;
  • Receipts for payment of all parts of the service;
  • Four photos on matte paper 3.5 x 4.5 cm;
  • A copy of the certificate that you have been given an identification code (if any);
  • Translation of documents into Ukrainian (if necessary).

Permanent residence permit cost is stated by the Ukrainian law. In addition to residence permit cost a state fee must be paid. Some categories of persons are exempt from this procedure (disabled people and victims of the Chernobyl tragedy of the first and second groups). Instead of a receipt, they can submit a document confirming their status.

In some cases (depending on the country you are moving from) a long-stay visa may be required. A copy of it must also be added to the list of documents above. You need to apply for a permanent residence permit during the period when the immigration permit is valid. As a rule, it is issued for one year. The next step is to write a statement. You can find a sample of it on the Internet or ask for it at the office of the State Migration Service of Ukraine.

At this stage, you need to be as careful as possible and check the application several times after writing. The fact is that errors in this document may cause refusal of granting a permanent residence permit.

After that, the application and documents must be taken to the State Migration Sevice department at the place of residence. This must be done personally. Your case will be reviewed within seven days. If everything was done correctly, you will later be able to obtain a permanent residence permit in Ukraine.

In some cases, the state may refuse to issue a residence permit. The reason for this may be the danger that a particular person poses to the country and its inhabitants, as well as the identification of fraud or an incorrectly filled statement for obtaining permit.

In order to move to Ukraine for permanent living, you must have an appropriate immigration permit. Such a document can be obtained within or outside the immigration quota, which was stated by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Immigration of citizens of other states to Ukraine has been growing in recent years. This happens due to various reasons, including economic and political. The Ukrainian state provides foreigners with the opportunity to become full citizens of Ukraine, live and work in Ukraine in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "About the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons."
