State registration of symbols of a non-profit organization

Registration of the symbols of a non-profit organization (NPO) in the Ukrainian State Register may be carried out only for those associations that operate in the form of a legal entity. Symbols may include emblems, flags, and identifying marks. It should be noted that Ukrainian legislation sets certain requirements for symbols; in particular, they must not reproduce state symbols, the names of other states, and must not infringe the rights of individuals or other associations. Violation of these requirements will result in a refusal to register. In addition, the symbol must necessarily contain an indication of the association to which it belongs.

Procedure for registering symbols

To register the symbols of a public association, the following documents must be submitted to the Ukrainian State Register:

• an application (its form is approved by law and can be viewed at the following link);
• an appropriate decision indicating the necessary data for identifying the symbols;
• a digital and paper image of the symbol sized 8 * 8 cm, as well as its description;
• a copy of the association’s charter certified by the head.

If an incomplete set of documents is submitted or they are improperly prepared, a decision will be made to leave the NPO’s documents unreviewed.

The time for the Ukrainian State Register to make a decision is 7 working days.

The fee for the administrative service for symbol registration is:

• 34 UAH – for associations of persons with disabilities and persons affected as a result of the Chornobyl accident;
• 68 UAH – for all other associations.

The payment receipt is provided after receiving a positive decision on the symbol registration.

The final stage of the procedure is the issuance of the registration certificate, as well as the official decision of the Ukrainian State Register prepared in accordance with legal requirements.
