Last night a fire broke out at one of the largest Ukrainian data centers, owned by Besthosting and located in Vinnytsia. It halted the operation of 10,000 websites that were hosted on the data center’s servers. Among those affected are one of the country’s largest online stores, as well as the sites of many government institutions and our sites.
According to data center staff, the fire lasted about 30 minutes, after which it was extinguished. As a result of the blaze, the wiring and routing equipment were damaged. «At the moment, staff are cleaning and blowing soot from the servers, testing their operation. After lunch we plan to restore the routing equipment and begin bringing parts of the data center online (the servers in Zone B that were not in rackmount cases)», Besthosting representatives reported on their page on the social network «VKontakte». It was not possible to reach Besthosting. The company’s phones are not answering; the website is unavailable. Currently, the sites that were hosted on Besthosting’s servers are inaccessible. The company services about 10,000 client websites and about 10,000 domains across more than 50 domain zones. In comments on the company’s «VKontakte» group, it is reported that dozens of government agency sites in the Sumy region are down due to the fire, including the sites of the traffic police (GAI) and the regional police. Also affected was one of the largest Ukrainian online stores, Fotos.ua. Dmitry also told AIN.UA that the resource is expected to be restored by lunchtime. Right now the store’s administrators have gone to Vinnytsia to retrieve the servers on which the store’s site is hosted.
