What is nostrification?
Nostrification is the procedure for issuing a certificate of recognition on the territory of Ukraine of the legal validity of an education document obtained abroad. Accordingly, as a result you receive not a Ukrainian diploma, but an additional certificate to your diploma that confirms its legal validity.
List of documents not subject to nostrification:
- issued by educational institutions and branches not accredited in their country of affiliation or in the country of operation, as well as documents that are not recognized by the country of the institution’s affiliation for various reasons;
- that do not indicate information about the specific educational (qualification) level that was awarded, or that do not correspond to any of the levels (directions) adopted in Ukraine;
- improperly issued;
- are not authentic or are not issued according to the proper standard (if such exists in the issuing country).
Citizens of the USSR are not required to validate documents that were obtained before 15.05.1992.
The nostrification procedure is quite complex and multi-stage. Below are the standard steps that need to be taken:
As a result of completing all of the above actions, the applicant receives a certificate of the prescribed form or a notice of refusal to recognize the education document.
It should be noted that international agreements may provide a different procedure for recognition of education documents; in such cases, the provisions of the treaty will apply.
